Online video upscaler questions, answered clearly
Understand how the tools work, what to expect from enhancement, and how to get a dependable export from your browser.
Troubleshoot a video that will not open or export
First check the source limits: video up to 30 seconds, 100 MB, and 921,600 pixels; images up to 25 MB and 2.5 megapixels. Check that the source decodes in your browser and select a scale within the video 8,294,400-pixel or image 16-megapixel output cap. For codec issues, try a different supported export format or convert the source in a trusted local editor.
- A file extension alone does not guarantee a supported codec.
- Mobile browsers may have tighter memory and background-task limits.
- Save your completed download before navigating away.
Frequently asked questions about online video upscaling
How do I upscale a video without uploading it?
Open the video workspace and choose a compatible clip up to 30 seconds, 100 MB, and 921,600 source pixels—the pixel count of 1280 × 720. Select a scale and generate a first-frame AI preview before enhancing the full video. Processing stays local; keep the tab open and download the finished result.
Is Real Video Enhancer free to use?
The browser tools are available without a subscription, account, or added watermark. Videos are limited to 30 seconds, 100 MB, and 921,600 source pixels; images to 25 MB and 2.5 megapixels. Video output is capped at 8,294,400 pixels and image output at 16 megapixels, with a maximum 8192-pixel edge. Browser codec support and available memory also matter.
Can AI turn every low-resolution video into perfect 4K?
No. A larger output has more pixels, but missing original detail cannot be recovered with certainty. AI may infer plausible texture. Always check faces, text, fine patterns, and movement against the original. This tool accepts video up to the pixel count of 720p; a 1280 × 720 source at 3× produces 3840 × 2160 output when your browser can encode it.
What is the difference between the video and image tools?
Both workspaces use on-device ESPCN AI super-resolution. The model predicts a native 3× image; 2× and 4× outputs are resampled from that prediction. Video AI processes frames individually and does not create intermediate frames. Images export as stills, while video export encodes the processed sequence into a new file.
Do I need a powerful GPU?
A recent computer gives you more headroom, but performance varies. Browser video decoding and export depend on your browser and operating system. AI image inference can use a compatible browser runtime; larger images take more time and memory. Start with a small sample before committing to a large job.
Which video format should I choose?
Import a format that your browser can decode, commonly MP4 or WebM. Export availability depends on the encoders exposed by that browser. Use the format offered by the workspace, then test the downloaded file in the player or editor where you intend to use it.
Does upscaling increase the file size?
It often does. Resolution, duration, frame rate, encoder, and bitrate all affect the final size. Doubling both dimensions produces four times as many pixels per frame, although a compressed file does not necessarily become four times larger.
Why does an export take longer than expected?
Every frame runs through local AI inference before encoding. Processing time depends on your device, frame count, and output dimensions and may greatly exceed the clip duration. Keep the tab visible, close memory-heavy applications, and try a shorter clip or smaller output scale if needed.
Can I use the output commercially?
You retain the rights you already hold in your files. You must have permission to process and publish the source material, including music, faces, and third-party footage. The tool does not grant rights to content that belongs to someone else.
Is this the official Real Video Enhancer desktop application?
No. realvideoenhancer.org is an independent browser-based project. It is not affiliated with realvideoenhancer.com or the separate Real Video Enhancer desktop application. Our About page explains the scope of these tools.
Why are 2× and 4× outputs described as resampled AI?
The ESPCN model reconstructs detail at a native 3× scale. The workspace resizes that AI result when you select 2× or 4×. These are output-size choices using the same model, not separate native 2× or 4× AI models. The selected scale must also fit the output pixel limit.
Can I upload a 1080p video to this browser tool?
No. A 1920 × 1080 video exceeds the current source limit of 921,600 pixels per frame. Use a compatible 720p-or-smaller source, or choose a desktop workflow that supports the original dimensions. The 4K guide demonstrates 1280 × 720 upscaled at the model’s native 3× scale.
