Convert an image to PNG, JPEG or WebP
Change a supported image into the format your website, document or editor accepts. Preview a local PNG, JPEG or WebP export at the original dimensions, with a background color option when converting transparency to JPEG.
Choose an image to get started
JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF · up to 25 MiB, 16 megapixels and 8192 pixels per edge.
Your file stays on your device. Exports are still images; animation and original metadata are not preserved.
How to convert a supported image format
Choose a JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF source up to 25 MiB, 16 megapixels and an 8192-pixel edge. Select PNG, JPEG or WebP as the output format, generate a preview and download the new file. The converter keeps the source dimensions. Your browser must support decoding the input and encoding the output you choose.
- Check which image formats your destination accepts before exporting.
- Choose a JPEG background color if the source contains transparency.
- Open the saved file in your destination application to verify compatibility.
Choose a format for compatibility, transparency or file size
Use JPEG for photographs when your destination needs broad compatibility and no transparency. Choose PNG for graphics and transparent images when file size is less important. WebP can combine a smaller photographic file with transparency, but check your destination’s support. AVIF is an input option here; this tool does not export AVIF, GIF, SVG, HEIC or PDF.
Replace transparent pixels deliberately when saving JPEG
JPEG has no transparent background. For example, a transparent logo converted to JPEG needs a solid background color that suits the document or page where you will place it. Select that color before generating the result. Choose PNG or WebP when you need the background to remain transparent instead.
Understand what a format conversion preserves
The output keeps the image width and height, but conversion re-encodes pixels into a new still file. Saving a JPEG as PNG does not restore detail lost earlier. Original EXIF metadata is removed, the color profile may change, and an animated source may export only its first frame. File size may increase; use the compressor to compare quality settings or the resizer to change dimensions.
image converter questions and answers
Can I convert WebP or AVIF to JPEG?
Yes, when your browser can decode the source. Choose JPEG as the output, select a background for any transparent areas, generate the result and download it. Input is limited to 25 MiB, 16 megapixels and an 8192-pixel edge.
Will converting JPEG to PNG improve image quality?
No. PNG avoids an additional lossy encoding step, but it cannot recover detail that the source JPEG already lost. It may also create a larger file. Use the AI image upscaler separately if you want to evaluate an enlargement.
Can I convert a transparent PNG to WebP?
Yes, when your browser supports WebP export. PNG and WebP output can retain transparent pixels. JPEG fills those pixels with the selected background color.
Does the converter preserve animation and camera metadata?
No. The output is a re-encoded still image. Animated input may become only its first frame, and original EXIF metadata is not retained. Keep the source when you need its animation, camera data or original color profile.
