Save a frame from a video as an image
Choose a moment in your video and save a still for a thumbnail, presentation or reference. Set the time in seconds or move the slider, preview the displayed frame, then download a PNG, JPEG or WebP on your device.
Choose a video to get started
Compatible MP4 or WebM · up to 100 MiB, 10 minutes, 8.29 MP and 4096 pixels per edge.
Your video stays on your device. Export one still image at the source dimensions. Audio and original video metadata are not included.
How to extract a still from your video
Choose a compatible video up to 100 MiB, 10 minutes, 8,294,400 source pixels and a 4096-pixel maximum edge. A 3840 × 2160 source fits the pixel limit. Wait for the video to load, move to your chosen time and capture the displayed frame. Select PNG, JPEG or WebP, then review and download the result when your browser supports that image encoder.
- Use the time field for a particular point or the slider to look through the clip.
- Pause on a sharp moment with open eyes, clear lettering and little motion blur.
- Check the captured preview before downloading the still image.
Choose a useful moment for a thumbnail or reference
For a demonstration video, pick a moment when the subject or result is fully visible. For a thumbnail, a still during a pause is often clearer than one during camera movement. The extractor keeps the decoded frame dimensions; it does not sharpen, crop or upscale the image. Save the still first, then use the image resizer for a layout size or the AI image upscaler to evaluate enlargement within its separate limits.
Treat the selected time as a browser seek position
Entering 12.5 seconds asks the browser to seek near that point in the source. Decoder behavior, frame timing and the file’s seek information affect which frame is displayed. This workspace does not guarantee an exact frame number or frame-accurate extraction. Inspect the capture visually and use a dedicated editing workflow if you need exact frame selection for technical analysis.
Choose a still-image format and keep the original video
PNG avoids an additional lossy image encoding step. JPEG is useful for a photographic still, while WebP is useful when supported by your destination. The download contains one re-encoded image without the source video’s audio, subtitles, animation or original metadata. It does not run AI or change the video. Format support depends on your browser, and the output cannot restore detail already missing from the source.
video frame extractor questions and answers
Can I extract a frame from a 4K video?
A compatible 3840 × 2160 video fits the extractor’s 8,294,400-pixel input cap. The source must also fit 100 MiB, 10 minutes and a 4096-pixel maximum edge. Your browser must be able to decode its video codec. The separate AI video upscaler still has a 720p-equivalent input limit.
Is this more accurate than taking a screenshot?
It saves the decoded video frame at its source dimensions, avoiding a screenshot of the browser interface or a scaled player. Time seeking is still browser-dependent, so the captured frame is not guaranteed to match an exact frame number.
Can I extract every video frame or create an animated GIF?
No. This tool captures one displayed frame at a time and saves PNG, JPEG or WebP. It does not export an image sequence, animated GIF or animated WebP.
Why will my video not open in the frame extractor?
Check the file size, duration, dimensions and edge limit. MP4 and WebM are useful starting formats, but their video codecs must also be supported by your browser. A file extension alone does not establish decoding support. Try another compatible source or a browser that supports its codec.
